Around 10:00 am, a festive procession with the horses and their riders moves from the centre of Meran to the racecourse.
The participants are then challenged in the afternoon, when the traditional gallop races start. Between the individual rounds, there are musical interludes and performances by folk dance groups.
About the Haflinger horses:
The Haflinger horse is a robust and tough horse breed. Moreover, it is attributed to be attentive and good-natured. The horse can therefore be applied for therapeutic purposes. Norbert Rier (lead singer of the very popular band Kastelruther Spatzen) is probably the most famous South Tyrolean Haflinger holder.
