Kasteel Juval
Reinhold Messner, de beroemde Zuid-Tiroolse extreme bergbeklimmer, schrijver en museumstichter, wekte kasteel Juval uit zijn sluimer. Hij renoveerde het kasteel, maakte er zijn zomerresidentie van en veranderde een deel ervan in een museum.
Kasteel Juval troont in de gemeente Castelbello-Ciardes boven de smalle Val Senales/Schnalstal kloof bij Naturns. Het werd voor het eerst genoemd in een document uit 1278 en werd in de 16e eeuw omgebouwd van een middeleeuwse versterking tot een renaissancekasteel. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd het kasteel in Val Venosta aan zijn lot overgelaten en raakte het in verval.
Messner Bergmuseum Juval
In 1983 kocht Reinhold Messner het kasteel Juval en combineerde de middeleeuwse muren met moderne architectuur en invloeden uit verre landen. Een deel van het kasteel werd een privéwoning, het andere deel een van de verschillende Zuid-Tiroler locaties van het Messner Mountain Museum project.
Het museum is gewijd aan de mythe van de berg. Bezoekers van het MMM Juval kunnen de Tibetika collectie, de avonturenbibliotheek, de collectie maskers uit 5 continenten en de fotogalerij van 's werelds heilige bergen bekijken. De renaissance fresco's zijn ook de moeite waard. Op de kasteelheuvel bevindt zich ook een klein park voor bergdieren, de herberg Schlosswirt met zijn eigen boerderijproducten, het wijnhuis Unterortl met zijn uitstekende wijnen en de boerderijwinkel Venosta Valley aan de voet van de heuvel.
