Unsplash / Andrea MaioloIn het midden van dit alles, het diepblauwe tot turquoise gekleurde Antholz meer. De landschappelijke sfeer rond het bergmeer aan het einde van het Antholzdal is uniek. Met een wateroppervlakte van ongeveer 44 hectare is het Antholz-meer het op twee na grootste bergmeer van Zuid-Tirol en dankzij zijn prachtige ligging een populaire bestemming voor uitstapjes voor zowel inwoners als bezoekers.
Sinds enkele jaren loopt er een zeer informatief natuurpad van ongeveer anderhalf uur rond het meer, met verschillende stations die uitleg geven over de geologie van het Rieserferner gebied en de bijzonderheden van de flora en fauna.
In de winter kun je het einde van het Antholz-dal verkennen op een langlaufloipe die rond het meer loopt en - als het ijs dik genoeg is - ook erlangs. Het grote en bekende biatloncentrum van Antholz, waar al verschillende wereldbekerwedstrijden en wereldkampioenschappen zijn gehouden, ligt er ook vlak naast. Dankzij de ligging op ongeveer 1.600 meter boven zeeniveau zijn het Antholz meer en het biatloncentrum de hoogste plek voor deze sport.
